Cene politiche in età triumvirale : il caso cisalpino

Abstract

This paper examines four dining episodes, both public and private, occurred in Cisalpine Gaul between 50 \nand 43 B.C. It seems right to see a political value in all of them, thanks to textual and political elements. \nThe analysis aims to: 1) relate such occasions to the evolution that epula and convivia went through in \nlate Republican Rome; 2) outline Caesar’s strategies of political dining at Rome and in the provinces; 3) \nstress their usefulness as a means – and a place – for setting up political decisions outside the institutional \ndomain.
